I saw this a few years ago and I love this idea because i love giving back. I feel like we have been blessed this year and I want to give back and this is something that I know we could do easily So how this works:

Hope everyone had a great Halloween. Here is a little highlight video of the fun night we had trick or treating and stopping by a trunk or treat. I shot the entire thing on my iPhone 4s with the 8mm app and edited it on the iMovie iPhone app while Tiffany drove the kids around. So I just got back from shooting a gorgeous wedding in St. George this past weekend and am so exhausted. As I sat here tonight thinking of what I was going to post for Monday’s blog post and gift card give away, I suddenly realized that there is nothing else I’d rather be doing right now than snuggling with my gorgeous wife Tiffany upstairs in our nice cozy bed. So I decided to postpone today’s blog post and give away until further notice. Too many nights have I put my priorities on work over family, so tonight I right that wrong. That’s the beauty of life, if you make mistakes, you have the power every second of every day to start new.

Tess and Kimball . The Workshop Session

So on April 16th I taught another full day wedding photography workshop in Layton, Utah. Tess and Kimball were so kind to come and model for me just 2 days after I had shot their groomals in Salt Lake City These two are just so darn easy to photograph and so good looking. As we were shooting in Kaysville, a mailman drove by and was yelling catcalls and obscene things to Tess haha, we were all busting up laughing. Here are some of my favorites from the session.

My Guilty Pleasure . Rocks, Minerals, and Fossils

So today I wanted to share a little bit about one of my guilty pleasures. Back in 7th grade we moved from Clearfield to Layton and I was in a bit of a slump, I wasn’t doing well in school and not excited to start a new school. All of that changed when I met my 8th grade science teacher Mrs Nelson. She is one of those teachers you never forget and she truly made an impact in my life. She made me believe in myself and suggested that I join Science Olympiad. It was the first time I’d ever really been challenged by a teacher, so I decided to give it a try. She introduced me to my love for Rocks, Minerals, and Fossils. I became obsessed with them. After she taught me how to identify minerals and gave me my first couple specimens, I’ve fallen in love with them.

One of the contests involved with Science Olympiad was to go against other schools in the state and be tested on the identification of specimens, information about the rocks, etc. I read every book I could find and learned everything I could about the minerals, their hardness on the Moh’s scale, their composition, any kind of characteristics, etc. I was the biggest nerd ever. I memorized the time period the fossils came from, the different types of rocks, igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. I knew so much about them that in the Utah State Science Olympiad for two consecutive years, I took the gold medal (first place) in the competition. They sent you in a room with rocks laid out on a table with numbers and you were quizzed on them. By Mrs Nelson challenging me and me becoming the best at the competition, it really helped me gain confidence and to take pride in myself. It really opened my eyes and improved my self esteem and for that I owe Mrs Nelson for seeing the best in me and all of her students.

Every year we still visit Mrs Nelson around Halloween time and a couple other occasions. I just learned this year that she will be moving to Washington. I sure am going to miss her something fierce but she will never be forgotten. Even my kids now love finding rocks that look like crystals when we go on walks, and of course they have their own shelf in my rock curio cabinet

Mini Sessions May 7th Ogden Union Station

It’s time for mini sessions again. This time they will be held at the Ogden Union Station on Saturday May 7th, 2011 from 4pm to 8pm. Sessions are 30 minutes each. Sessions can be anything from family portraits, seniors, engagements, to headshots. Sessions are $149 and come with 5 hi res edited files with print release and a 13×19″ print, as well as online proofing and 20% off online ordering. Please call or email to schedule your session.
