Announcing Mini Sessions :)

For the first time ever I will be doing a mini session for anything you could want pictures of. Come get an updated family picture, senior picture, modeling head shots, engagements, etc. That’s right, for $50 you get a mini 30 minute photo session and 5 edited hi res files on disc with print release. I will be doing two days of mini sessions, the first day October 1st and 2nd 2010 at the Layton Commons Park from 2:00 until 6:00 PM. Please call or email to schedule your session. I will be doing a future mini session day in SLC so stay tuned for that date. All sessions will also include convenient online proofing for family and friends to see. Jessie Funk . Dance In The Rain album cover shoot

So a couple months back I shot some head shots for my good musician friend Jessie Funk for her upcoming CD “Dance In The Rain”. I was so honored that Jessie asked me to do the pictures for her new album. Even though I am primarily a Utah Wedding Photographer, I enjoy doing other types of photography for a change, so I immediately jumped on this opportunity. I was so excited when I went to my local Deseret Book only a few months after we shot and saw the new album with my work on it. Special thanks to my good friend Stephanie of Stephanie Patterson Photography who came along to help out with the session. You guys totally missed the behind the scenes footage of the session which consisted of me trying to scale a fence only to biff it on the other side haha, classic big D move. Many of you will remember my BFF Karly of Karly Kim Photography from an anniversary session I did of her and her husband Carlos last month. Well Karly was in need of some headshots for her wedding photography website, so I was the Utah photographer that she chose to do them. We shot at Memory Grove and the Utah State Capitol, but we could’ve shot in front of some dumpsters and Karly still would’ve looked amazing. Karly has to be one of the funniest people I know and every time we hang out it’s nothing but buenos tiempos. She has an amazing sense of humor and an amazing knowledge of fashion. Nic Father’s Day Video . Utah Family Photographer

So my bestest intern Whitney contacted me months ago about this idea to secretly do a video of her boyfriend Nic and his boys for a fathers day present, so we set up a “Mentoring” session where I brought my cameras and taught her some stuff about shooting while I would secretly do video clips. Talk about challenging We set up the session and had a good time shooting Nic and his two adorable little boys Quinn and Hayden. Nic became suspicious toward the end of the session as I’m running around with my camera lol and he kept saying taking video instead of pictures, but me and Whitney denied it. Well I must say it’s so hard to set up video shots and video without letting the subject in on that, but I think for being covert we did ok. This is a short one but cute none the less.

Katie Senior Session . Layton Utah Senior Photographer

Dear Blog Followers,

Meet Katie. She was a Senior that recently graduated Layton High School. She found my photography, she called me up and asked me to be her photographer, naturally I said yes. We set up the shoot at Layton park which is a lovely place for photographers to shoot. You probably are expecting to read more about how the shoot went or how the weather was during the session, but I’d like to pause for a moment and talk to you about safe driving habits.

I believe that this state is filled with some of the craziest drivers in the land, so here are a couple of safety tips to help keep you safe.

Check your blind spots when merging or switching lanes.
Wear your safety belt at all times.
Obey all posted traffic signs and speed limits.
Be courteous and work the zig zag when jammed up in a parking lot following the Michael Buble concert.
Don’t text and drive.
Don’t drink and drive.
If someone cuts you off, don’t flip him the bird, he might just be running late for his local book club meeting, so cut him some slack.
Don’t tailgate.
Most important of all, please use your turn signal

Pedersen Family . Layton Utah Family Photographer

Nicole Senior Session . Layton Utah Senior Portrait Photography

Meet Nicole. Nicole is a senior that attends Layton High School. I was super stoked when her mother called to schedule an appointment for me to do her senior photography in the Layton area because I love doing senior portraits. I loved all of Nicole’s outfit choices and she definitely knew how to pull off some killer poses. I loved her bright orange Polynesian outfit as well. I’m so glad they chose me to be their photographer and had such a fun time shooting at some vintage locations around Layton and Kaysville. I had a hard time narrowing it down, but here are some of my favorite pictures from the session.

Ewan and Gabby . Utah Children Photographer

So a couple days ago, my good friend that I’ve known for years, Stephen, brought over his newborn Ewan to my studio in Layton Utah for some photography. His little son Ewan is SO adorable and Gabby is such a cute big sister to Ewan. It’s been years since I have shot newborns and I forgot about the whole peeing when they are naked thing, lol. Needless to say my black muslin is in the wash right now and it was a total adventure. I have a great respect for newborn photographers, it takes a great deal of patience and posing newborns is definitely more challenging than posing brides and grooms on the wedding day, but babies are so precious. Here were a couple of my favorites from the session.

Megan and Josh Maternity Session – Utah Maternity Photographer

So last Saturday I had spent some time with Megan and her husband Josh shooting some maternity photography. Megan is the owner of Pink Piggy Designs and heads up the Utah Bride Blog with the wedding industry’s best florist Audrey of Studio Stems. We shot around the Layton area and Megan wanted the session to have a vintage style. I had just purchased the tandem bike off KSL the day prior so of course I busted it out for the session. As a photographer friend of Megan, I was a little nervous because I wanted the photographs to be perfect, but how could I go wrong with such gorgeous models I had a really hard time narrowing it down so there are tons of favorites.

New Studio Test Shots – Utah Children Photographer

So I recently converted one of my basement rooms into a shooting space and needed some practice shooting, so my good friend Tara Winsor of Winsor Photography let me steal her son Hunter for a couple of test shots with my new lights and backdrops. I can’t wait til I get the rest of my equipment and backdrops so I can shoot more newborns and toddlers in the studio.
